Huawei has added a new colour option to its FreeClip 2 open-ear earbuds lineup in the UAE, introducing a Berry Purple edition alongside existing shades including Blue, White, Black and Rose Gold. The move reflects how consumer audio brands continue to compete not only on specifications, but also on product aesthetics and day-to-day wearability.
What’s new with the FreeClip 2 in the UAE
According to Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG), the Berry Purple option expands the FreeClip 2 range available in the UAE through official channels and select retail stores. Pricing is listed at AED 649.
While the announcement centers on a colour refresh, Huawei is also positioning the FreeClip 2 as a distinct design category in a market where many wireless earbuds rely on in-ear tips. The FreeClip 2 uses an open-ear approach intended to improve comfort for longer listening sessions, and the company highlights an updated C-bridge design that it says improves fit compared with the first generation.
Design and comfort updates highlighted by Huawei
Huawei says the FreeClip 2 is about 9% lighter and more comfortable for all-day wear than its predecessor. It also describes changes to the charging case, where the earbuds are arranged in an overlapping configuration to optimize space. Huawei claims this has enabled a 17% smaller case while keeping a larger battery capacity and extending overall battery life.
Material and finish are part of the product story. Huawei states the earbuds use skin-friendly liquid silicone and acoustic ball and comfort bean components, along with a metallic-looking finish that creates a matte and gloss contrast. For users in hot and humid climates, comfort and sweat resistance are often as important as audio performance, especially for day-long commuting and office use.
Audio and noise-adaptive features
Huawei also outlines audio performance upgrades that are relevant beyond the new colour. The company states the FreeClip 2 uses a dual diaphragm driver and that both volume and low-frequency performance are improved compared with the previous generation. Huawei further says the earbuds can detect surrounding noise in real time and adjust volume dynamically to match the environment.
For calls, the FreeClip 2 includes a three-microphone setup with what Huawei describes as multi-channel DNN noise cancellation algorithms. Huawei says the system separates voice from ambient sound and can enhance a caller’s voice in noisy conditions. In practice, this feature set targets one of the most common pain points for wireless earbuds, especially in outdoor settings and busy workplaces.
Battery life and durability
In addition to the design and audio claims, Huawei lists battery and durability specifications. The earbuds are rated for up to 9 hours on a single charge, and Huawei states that with the charging case users can reach up to 38 hours of total playback time.
The FreeClip 2 is rated IP57 for sweat and water resistance, according to the company. That certification is typically associated with products designed to handle light water exposure and sweat, which can be a deciding factor for commuters, gym-goers, and outdoor workers.
Why a colour addition matters in the UAE audio market
In consumer electronics, colour changes can appear minor, but they often serve a broader commercial purpose. In the UAE, where lifestyle-oriented purchasing is common and retailers frequently refresh shelf options, adding a new shade can make an existing product feel current without requiring a new hardware platform.
For Huawei, this also reinforces the FreeClip 2’s identity as a fashion-adjacent audio product. Open-ear designs can be easier to wear for long periods, but they also stand out visually. Expanding the palette gives buyers more ways to match personal style, workplace preferences, or accessory collections, while keeping the same core feature set.
For now, the key retail decision for consumers is the AED 649 price point and whether they prefer the open-ear form factor over traditional in-ear options. If you already own a FreeClip 2, the new Berry Purple edition is likely to matter more for aesthetics than for performance, since this announcement focuses on colour rather than introducing new model variants.
